Chai, Kitli aur Hum........
If you are a chai freak then kitli is the place you should be;
Just park your bike around and savor endless cups of tea

Being a Delhite the concept of a 'kitli' was totally alien to me when I came here almost 5 months ago. I mean having roadside chai that too at midnight was next to impossible in saddi dilli. Well, living away from home has several advantages......for a tea freak like me, this is downright the greatest one. Visiting a kitli is a part of daily routine now.

A kitli is a place with a tin shed, a gas stove and an angel serving tea till midnight.

The plan for kitli-bazi is made every evening as soon as the red dot (infront of kitli gang members' names on Gtalk) goes green. If food at office canteen is worse than its better days then dinner (usually paranthas at Vastrapur) is preceeded by those infinite rounds of tea. Actually, its not just the tea that we, chaikalaals, relish. It is the entire process of kitli bazi-ing --
>>deciding the kitli adda;
>>reaching the place(....which is adventurous when Satu is the driver since his sense of direction is worse than mine);
>>exercising our vocal cords by singing old, new, meaningful, meaningless songs;
>>and then upon reaching the destination discussing various issues (majority of which do not make sense), making plans for coming weekend, criticising latest movie releases, praising the concept of kitli and then taking a look at our watch and realising it is time to go back home...

The funda is certainly not unique to our gang. Bikes parked and scores of youngsters with cup of tea in hand is a common city sight at night. Most popular kitli spots in the city are:

1) near Divya-bhskar press
2) outside IIM
3) Near Iscon Mall

And of course during the day the secret Ravi bhai's kitli near Fadia Chambers.

Long live kitlis!
